JamFactory Barossa:
Workshops at Seppeltsfield Estate
Join Sonya Rankine of Lakun Mara to learn traditional Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri weaving techniques to create your own small basket or mat using natural fibres at JamFactory's new workshop facility in the Barossa at Seppeltsfield Estate.
Sonya will share with you the rich cultural tradition of weaving and the importance of weaving for Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri First Nation people of South Australia. Woven throughout the workshop is the sharing of history and how colonisation has impacted on the tradition; weaving for Sonya is more than just art, it is the important practice of cultural revival and maintenance, a part of our culture and our story. Students will also be shown examples of other basket weaving techniques Sonya has incorporated into her art practice to create contemporary pieces that blend the cultural tradition of weaving.
