FNAWN SUMMIT 2022

Opened on Friday the 16th of Septmeber at Tandanya with a poetry reading from FNAWN South Australian delegates - Mandy Brown, Nat Harkin, Joanna Agius, Ali Eckermann and myself.

Response of feeling trapped and eventually finding the way to be looking forward to be hopeful for the motions of change.

In reponse to watching Incarceration Nation Documentary on SBS.

This poem was submitted to FNAWN and Australian Poetry for the First Nations COVID-19 Anthology. It was chosen to be included in the publication.

Written in response to the Black Lives Matter narrative by non-Indigneous people in Australia.

My COVID poem is about my journey. I was a regular drinker and smoker and I’velived on my own for a while. I always thought I was fine about it until COVIDlockdown. Something changed and I didn’t like being on my own and certainly not drinking on my own or smoking anymore. It created an opportunity for a massive lifestyle change I had thought about but never seriously done. Turning 50 had caused me to reflect but COVID lockdown unexpectedly forced my hand. My kids are proud of me and I’m thankful for the positive changes in my life now.
