Port adelaide artist forum - sala exhibition 2022

I created this piece for the Port Adelaide Artists Forum (PAAF) SALA Exhibition. It was an exhibition celebrating 10 years of SALA for PAAF. Each artist was given a theme of the last 10 SALA exhibitions. I was given 'Celebrating & Saving Our Planet'.

It took sometime to think about what I was going to create as a weaver and I knew I wanted to do something different. The beauty of my weaving is using plant materials and taking from nature only what I need. I decided to use the parasite plant Dodder Laurel, also called Snotty Gobble and help save a host plant from being swallowed up by the Snotty Gobble. Why called Snotty Gobble.....because it sticks like snot and gobbles a plant up.

I finally decided to create a sphere, using grape vines to create the round structure. The grape vines would of ended up in the green waste bin but was kindly donated from a friend in Moonta.

I chose to use Snotty Gobble freshly gathered because overtime it will dry out and die which symbolises the importance of caring for our earth or it will dry up and die. It was my way of making a statement on climate change and the dire impacts it is having on our home we call earth.

Thank you to PAAF for inviting me to be a part of their SALA Exhibition. Im happy to say my piece sold and has found a new home.
