The wall-hanging I have created for ‘Top to Toe’ exhibition represents being on Nharangga banggara - Narungga country and my deep cultural connection to the land as a Narungga woman. The natural materials I have used for this wall hanging are all from Guuranda - Yorke Peninsula. It is another additional layer of connection that my weaving creates for me. The selection of the natural materials is an important aspect of my creative and artistic process.
The beach hagstones represent my home and the places on Narungga country I love spending time and where my family is connected to. The beach hagstones were collected from Stansbury and have been woven around with Bundu - Ghania Fillium, which is the plant used by Narungga people to make string for fishing lines and fishing nets. The gurdi - quandong seeds represent the roads travelled and the connections across country. The base of the wall hanging has been created using Dodder Laurel that has been twisted like rope and then stitched together with dark brown hemp string. The development of this wall hanging was dependent on the natural materials I chose to show the importance of the country I call home and the home of my Nharangga – Narungga ancestors.
